Museums and Heritage

National Ethnographic Museum exhibits many handicrafts from different parts of the country. The small collections include wooden masks, clothes, baskets and statues. The staff at the museum are nice and helpful, always ready to explain the nexus between the different items and the traditional beliefs they present, as well as their purposes to visitors.

Fort d’Amura  is an old Portuguese fort that contains the mausoleum of Amilcar Cabral, who is a national hero, as well as tombs of other revolutionaries. It also houses Amilcar Cabral’s car. The fort is often considered an off-limit for visitors because it is still being used by the military as security base, but trustworthy visitors with prior permission.
